Allison Jaeger receives CALS Council Senior Award

2017 Dec 12

Allison Jaeger, graduating with a degree in dietetics from Iowa State University, received the award for Distinguished Service from the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) Student Council. This award is bestowed upon a student who has shown a commitment to community service on and off campus while at Iowa State.

Jaeger took service trips over breaks from class as a student to places as diverse as Washington D.C., Kentucky, and the Dominican Republic. As a sophomore, Jaeger was elected president of the Service and Justice Team during which she organized a Hunger Banquet to raise awareness of global and local hunger as well as a homelessness awareness sleep-out where students slept under the Campanile in winter. For her efforts, Jaeger has been recognized with many scholarships and awards for her contributions.

"Her commitment to service strongly reflects the mission of CALS, particularly as she dedicates her personal time and energy to confronting food insecurity and improving health and wellbeing," said Jaeger's adviser Dr. Manju Reddy, professor in food science and human nutrition, “Ali has a deep-seated and abiding devotion to helping others wherever she is.”

Award recipients will be recognized at the college convocation event December 16, 2017 beginning at 9:30 am in C.Y. Stephens Auditorium. Presenting the award on behalf of council will be the newly elected CALS Council President, Alex Brand, and Vice President, Wes Reever.
