2016 Dec 20

Brandon Hanson, of Iowa Falls, majoring in Agricultural Business, successfully completed Fall 2016 as a member of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) Ambassadors at Iowa State University. This highly selective group of students plays a pivotal role in the recruitment activities of the college.

Members of this group, open to all students in the college, are required to log at least 20 hours of volunteering each semester and maintain attendance and participation requirements. Ambassadors serve actively on one of seven committees, each tasked with specific duties related to the purposes of recruitment and engagement within the college.

Hanson served as the representative to the leadership team of the Training Committee, who plans and helps facilitate the training Ambassadors must take in preparation for their work in the organization as well as the selection of new members. Training topics include the majors in the college, and effective communication skills.

Over the course of fall 2016, the Ambassadors logged over 1,500 volunteer hours. Through each committee, members get experience with project management and leadership in addition to practicing teamwork and communication skills.

Governing the Ambassadors is a leadership team who is made up of committee chairs, a representative from each committee, and elected officers which includes a chairperson, vice-chair, and secretary. The CALS Ambassadors are advised by Beth Foreman, Student Services, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
