Britney Williams recognized as outstanding graduate at Iowa State University College of Human Sciences spring convocation
2017 May 8
The Iowa State University College of Human Sciences recognized the accomplishments of nearly 450 graduating students in a series of events on May 5 and 6. Britney Williams of West Chicago, IL, is one of six outstanding graduates who received individual recognition during convocation at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 5 at Hilton Coliseum.
Williams will be one of three students receiving the Dean's Recognition Award, conferred to graduating seniors who represent a truly outstanding example of the excellence displayed by College of Human Sciences graduates. She is graduating summa cum laude with a bachelor's degree in the pre-health professions option of kinesiology and health. Williams repeatedly connected her out-of-class work to her major, serving as a physical therapy student assistant, an undergraduate laboratory assistant, and a summer research program peer mentor in biology and pre-calculus. She led Iowa State's Womyn of Colour Network as president and developed academic programming for the Sigma Lambda Gamma national sorority as vice president. She was a 2016 Student Sensation and is featured in the 2017 Women Impacting ISU calendar. Williams plans to attend Des Moines University in the fall to become a physical therapist.
Dean and Dean's Chair Laura Dunn Jolly and department chairs individually recognized students receiving bachelor's degrees at the college's undergraduate convocation. A reception for graduating students at all levels immediately followed the college convocation, in the first-floor lobby of the Scheman Building. Iowa State University's spring commencement ceremony will take place at 1:30 p.m. on May 6 at Jack Trice Stadium.
