Lakeisha Perkins receives CALS Council Senior Award

2018 Apr 20

Lakeisha Perkins, graduating with a degree in Agriculture & Society from Iowa State University, received the award for Diversity and Inclusion from the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) Student Council. This award recognizes a student who has fostered an environment which encourages diversity within the college and at Iowa State.

As a Cyclone Aide, Perkins was the first welcoming face that new CALS freshmen and their families experienced upon checking in and throughout Orientation. She has also served as an Agriculture and Life Sciences Exploration Peer Mentor, helping undecided students to find their ideal major, as well as an undergraduate teaching assistant.

“Keisha has tirelessly worked to foster an environment of inclusivity for ALL CALS students in a variety of ways,” said Alex Brand, president of CALS Council. “As 1 of only 16 participants from across the US selected for the prestigious Bill Emerson National Hunger Fellowship, she will continue to work as a social justice leader to fight poverty, hunger, and social inequality through community-based efforts and national public policy. Her selection is further proof of how she has demonstrated elite understanding of diversity and a long term commitment to inclusion.”

Award recipients will be recognized at the college convocation event May 4, 2018 beginning at 10:00 am in Hilton Coliseum. Presenting the award on behalf of council will be the 2018 CALS Council President, Alex Brand, and Vice President, Wes Reever.
