Lettinga member of Iowa State's regional 1st place Dairy Cattle Judging Team

Mason Lettinga, Animal Science, played a competitive role on the Iowa State University Dairy Cattle Judging team which took top honors as the overall contest winner in the 24th Annual Accelerated Genetics Intercollegiate Dairy Cattle Judging Contest, September 17, 2017 in Viroqua, Wis.

Additionally, Lettinga received the top overall individual award at the competition. He also placed in the top three in the oral reasons category, receiving a special scholarship from the James W. Crowley Fund. Lettinga placed 3rd in the Guernsey division, 2nd in Holsteins, and High Individual in the Jersey breed.

In addition to the top team honors, the Iowa State team had a great day placing first in the Guernsey divion, 2nd place in Holsteins, 1st in Milking Shorthorns, and 2nd in oral reasons. Iowa State had a total of 3 individuals place in the top 10, which secured the first place finish overall. The group is coached by Dr. Christen Burgett, animal science lecturer.

Twelve teams total participated in the contest from six states in the midwest. Each participant placed 10 classes and gave five sets of oral reasons.This marks the second time in a row that Iowa State has won this particular contest.
