Matt Kerns receives special recognition at College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Spring Convocation event.

Matt Kerns, graduating with a degree in animal science from Iowa State University, was given the outstanding senior award. This award recognizes an individual who encompasses efforts in service, leadership, and scholarship.

At Iowa State, Kerns has served as president of both College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) Council and Alpha Gamma Rho; he sits on the CALS Dean’s Advisory Council and Animal Science Undergraduate Advisory Committee; he is a member of several honor societies, including Cardinal Key. Additionally, he served on Freshman Council and the VEISHEA Executive Committee, as well as studied abroad in South Korea, China and Japan.

Trey Forsyth, 2016 president of CALS Council, said of Kerns, “he has been active in a diverse set of student organizations and clubs, enjoying every minute of his adventure. With a combination of leadership experience, community service, and scholastic achievement, there isn’t a better word than outstanding to describe Matt.”

Awards are given by the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Student Council and presented at the college convocation event May 7, 2016 beginning at 8:30 am in Hilton Coliseum.
