Morgan Bahl selected as 2015 Heddleson Summer Intern

Morgan Bahl has been selected as the 2015 Heddleson Summer Intern, working with Iowa State University Human Sciences' Extension and Outreach. Bahl, a Carpentersville, Ill. native, is a sophomore in the College of Human Sciences studying nutritional science.

Bahl’s internship will involve working with three Nutrition and Wellness programs i.e., Wellness and Independence through Nutrition, Preserve the Taste of Summer, and Words on Wellness (WOW). Wellness and Independence through Nutrition is a food assistance program aimed at reducing hunger and promoting food assistance awareness in the underserved group of older adults. Preserve the Taste of Summer is a food preservation program including both online lessons and hands-on workshops teaching the most recent USDA approved techniques. The Words on Wellness is a newsletter prepared by Nutrition and Wellness team to educate the community on the topics of nutrition, food safety, physical activity and healthy recipes. She will learn to teach workshops, implement programs, assess impact, and also write Words on Wellness articles. Bahl will be working with Dr. Sarah Francis (Assistant Professor, Food Science and Human Nutrition and Nutrition and Wellness Extension State Specialist) and Mary Krisco (Nutrition and Wellness Specialist).

The Heddleson Summer Internship program is designed to support student experiences that prepare individuals for a career in extension or community outreach, as well as help students gain hands-on experience with extension education programming and delivery. Bahl was one of three student selected to complete the internship this summer.
