Natalie Hanson and team place 1st at Reciprocal Meat Conference

2017 Jun 29

Natalie Hanson was a member of the Iowa State University first place team in the 2017 Undergraduate Quiz Bowl Competition at the American Meat Science Association (AMSA) Reciprocal Meat Conference (RMC).

The team, consisting of 4 members, went undefeated through preliminary rounds to the finals to come out victorious over 33 teams from across the United States who competed in this year's contest. Preliminary rounds were held throughout the first day and the finals followed a welcome reception that same evening during the conference in College Station, TX, June 18-21, 2017.

In addition to preparing for the contest itself, teams were required to submit 30 new questions for the competition. Submissions required the question, answer, topic area, a level of difficulty, and a reference source.

Iowa State was very well represented at the conference. In addition to the success of the quiz bowl team, the university won the people's choice and highest bidder (4th year running) at the RMC T-shirt contest raising funds for the AMSA Chris Raines Memorial Scholarship fund.

In addition to quiz bowl and several other competitions, student attendees to the conference had the opportunity to attend networking and technical sessions, as well as poster and awards presentations.

Serving as coaches of the winning quiz bowl team were graduate students in animal science, Danika Miller and Brian Patterson.
