2017 Dec 1

Rebecca Ray of Weslaco, TX, is one of six outstanding graduates who will receive individual recognition during the Iowa State University College of Human Sciences convocation at 2 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 15 at C.Y. Stephens Auditorium. The college will recognize the accomplishments of nearly 300 graduating students in a series of events on Dec. 15 and 16.

Rebecca Ray of Weslaco, Texas, is representing the College of Human Sciences as University Marshal. She is graduating summa cum laude with a bachelor's degree in financial counseling and planning and a specialization in family financial studies. Whether leading financial capability workshops for United Way of Central Iowa or helping redesign financial fitness courses for south Texas homeowners, Ray applied her financial counseling expertise to benefit the community. On campus, she served as a Writing and Media Center communication consultant, a Making Informed Decisions (MINDS) Learning Community peer mentor, and College of Human Sciences Dean's Student Advisory Council member. She also co-led the Human Development and Family Studies Club as vice president. Ray plans to attend graduate school after graduation.

Dean and Dean's Chair Laura Dunn Jolly and department chairs will individually recognize students receiving bachelor's degrees at the college's undergraduate convocation. A reception for graduating students at all levels will immediately follow the college convocation, in the first-floor lobby of the Scheman Building. Iowa State University's fall commencement ceremony will take place at 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 16 at Hilton Coliseum.
