Sara Schafer successfully completed Spring 2017 as a CALS Ambassador

2017 May 11

Sara Schafer, of DeKalb, majoring in Agricultural Business, successfully completed Spring 2017 as a member of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) Ambassadors at Iowa State University. This highly selective group of students plays a pivotal role in the recruitment activities of the college.

Members of this group, open to all students in the college, are required to log at least 20 hours of volunteering each semester and maintain attendance and participation requirements. Ambassadors serve actively on one of seven committees, each tasked with specific duties related to the purposes of recruitment and engagement within the college.

Schafer served as CALS Council Representative from the Ambassadors and member of the Campus Visits Committee, which is responsible for facilitating visits to campus for special groups. Additionally, the committee organizes Ambassadors to participate in Experience Iowa State, a large campus visit day.

Over the course of spring 2017, the Ambassadors logged over 2,000 volunteer hours. Through each committee, members get experience with project management and leadership in addition to practicing teamwork and communication skills.

Governing the Ambassadors is a leadership team who is made up of committee chairs, a representative from each committee, and elected officers which includes a chairperson, vice-chair, and secretary. The CALS Ambassadors are advised by Beth Foreman, Student Services, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
