2017 Jul 19

Rachel Stika, studying animal science at Iowa State University, took learning out of the classroom to explore the world participating in a short-travel study abroad program this summer.

Stika participated in "Animal and Dairy Science in the Netherlands," and spent time in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

The trip included a wide range of visits to gain an understanding of the dairy and other livestock industries in The Netherlands, including a variety of breeding and research stations, a factory that makes milk robots and other automation tools for livestock production, and several livestock farms. Cultural sites included a visit to the Rijksmuseum, Anne Frank House, and traveled the city by bike. Students also had an opportunity to interact with fellow students at Wageningen Agricultural University.

The Ag Study Abroad Office works with faculty members in departments to offer a variety of trips that help students gain a new perspective at locations all around the world. This summer nearly 100 students participated in travel programs facilitated through the office. Through trips offered over breaks in the academic year, during the summer and semester-long exchanges or internships, students in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences have been on all seven continents studying agriculture and life sciences.
