The Fashion Show 2017 Announces Winners

2017 Jun 1

Kathryn Kaalberg, an Apparel, Merchandising, and Design student in the College of Human Sciences at Iowa State University, received special honors at The Fashion Show 2017.

In one of the nation's largest student-run fashion shows, Kaalberg's work was showcased among 132 juried entries on the runway or in mounted exhibits. The students competed in 17 categories for $13,700 in scholarships. While having any entry accepted is an honor, 27 students received special recognition for their work. First place finishers received $500 scholarships, second-place winners took home $300, and third place prizewinners recevied $200.

Kaalberg received third place in ready to wear - spring/summer.

This marked the 35th anniversary for the show, which attracted a near sell-out attendance of 2,500. The theme for this year's event was "Altered Aspects." The show was held April 8, at C.Y. Stephens Auditorium in Ames.

Iowa State's apparel, merchandising, and design program is endorsed by the American Apparel and Footwear Association. It is one of the few apparel programs in the nation where undergraduate students have access to technologies including a digital textile printer, 3-D body scanner, laser cutter, and product development technology and testing lab.
