Wigdahl participates in Mid America Collegiate Horticulture Society Contest

2017 Oct 19

Justin Wigdahl tested their knowledge of horticulture at the 2017 Mid America Collegiate Horticulture Society (MACHS) contest and annual meeting in Crookston, MN.

Justin participated in the contest as an individual.

The regional contest consists of three parts. First, plant judging in landscape plants, greenhouse and floral plants, vegetable crops, and fruit and nut crops. Each consists of five classes. Second, a general knowledge exam consisting of multiple choice questions covering a wide variety of plant science areas. Finally, plant identification, 20 specimens each of woody ornamentals and herbaceous plants. Each school is allowed 1 team of four official members. This group is eligible for team awards and all students are eligible for individual awards.

Schools with a horticulture organization from 12 states are invited to participate in the regional activities and rotate this event. In addition to the contest and annual meeting, students attending have the opportunity to participate in industry tours.

Barb Clawson, academic adviser in horticulture, is the adviser for the group.
