Wilson member of 1st place Iowa State Crops Team at NACTA

2018 Apr 25

Heather Wilson and the Iowa State University Crops team placed first at the North American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture (NACTA) Judging Contest held at Northeast Community College in Norfolk, Nebraska on April 21, 2018.

Individual placings of Iowa State Agronomy students as well as the group team judging scores contributed to the top finish for the fifth time in the last six years. As an individual, Heather placed sixth in the contest.

The contest is divided into four areas: agronomic quiz, math practical, lab practical, and plant and seed identification.

The team is coached by Erik Christian, an Iowa State agronomy lecturer. Eric Coddington, Derrick Hoodjer and Lauren Schwarck, all students in agronomy, serve as assistant coaches for the team.

Iowa State took home the Overall Sweepstakes Award at NACTA for the fourth year in a row. Teams from across the College of Agriculture of Life Sciences competed in seven competitions to take the sweepstakes award.
