Iowa State University College of Agriculture and Life Sciences fall 2022 graduates receive senior awards
The Iowa State University College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) is pleased to recognize six fall 2022 graduates with senior awards. Awards are presented by the CALS Student Council. Award recipients will be recognized on College of Agriculture and Life Sciences social media channels, in communication to college alumni, and at the college Convocation event on Friday, December 16, 2022.

Members of the Campus Sustainability Month Celebration (CSMC) Planning Committee, a group responsible for the planning and implementation of a variety of tasks required for the Campus Sustainability event including publicity and logistics, contributed to a successful CSMC. Event attendees engaged in sustainability pledges, green-it-yourself activities and learned about University and community organizations committed to sustainability.

Grant Buresh and Shelby Nechkash have been named as the 2022-2023 Smart Business Challenge Interns for Iowa State University's Office of Sustainability and the City of Ames. In this role, they are part of a team dedicated to facilitating the City of Ames Electric Services Department's Energy Rebate Program and recruiting Ames community businesses to the City's Smart Business Challenge, focused on educating on and engaging and empowering in sustainable planning, practices and opportunities. Congratulations on your new role, Grant and Shelby!

Julio Delgadillo selected for CYstarters summer business accelerator program
Industrial design senior Julio Delgadillo, from Des Moines, is one of 17 Iowa State University students and recent graduates selected for the ISU Pappajohn Center for Entrepreneurship's 2022 CYstarters cohort. CYstarters is an 11-week paid summer accelerator program designed to support exceptional student and alumni entrepreneurs as they take their startup ideas to the next level. Delgadillo will receive $6,500 and a range of educational, mentoring and networking opportunities to help build his Buoy Club clothing line into a viable business.

Hillberry receives honorable mention in Confluence, Inc. Landscape Architecture Studio Prize competition
Iowa State University landscape architecture student TJ Hillberry, from Iowa City, Iowa, received an honorable mention prize of $500 in the 2022 Confluence, Inc. Landscape Architecture Studio Prize competition hosted by the ISU Department of Landscape Architecture. The studio prize was established by Confluence, Inc. - one of the largest and most-decorated landscape architecture, urban design and planning firms in the Midwest - to recognize outstanding student work, advance the landscape architecture discipline and elevate the ISU landscape architecture department's profile across the nation. Hillberry, who just completed his fourth year in the five-year bachelor of landscape architecture program, was recognized for his "Upper Harbor Terminal: Bridging the Gap" proposal for an urban waterfront renewal project along the Mississippi River in Minneapolis.

Congratulations to the graduates in the Iowa State University College of Human Sciences who will be honored by Iowa State University on at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 8 (2021) at the Bachelor's Cyclone Graduation Celebration, on the gold stage at Jack Trice Stadium in Ames. Spring and summer graduates will be recognized in person as they cross the stage in front of the crowd or by via pre-recorded video released on Friday morning, May 7, for those who opted to participate at a distance. The event will also be livestreamed.

Benjamin Litterer named Goldwater Scholar
Iowa State University and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences are pleased to announce that Benjamin Litterer, a data science major from Manchester, has been named a 2021 Goldwater Scholar. The Goldwater Scholarship is the premier undergraduate scholarship in mathematics, natural sciences and engineering in the United States. The scholarships are awarded by the Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation to encourage outstanding students to pursue careers in STEM research.

ISU Theatre explores questions of identity, community through "Iowa Odyssey (or How We Got to Here)"
ISU Theatre's "Iowa Odyssey (or How We Got to Here)," a unique, locally sourced theatre collaboration about identity, community and hope, opens Friday, April 26 at Fisher Theater. Using a pastiche of narratives and new and old storytelling techniques, "Iowa Odyssey" shares real-life stories that resulted from months of local research. The production's student advance team interviewed Ames community members and ISU students, faculty and staff about their experiences of culture, identity and immigration. The team also conducted archival research on the history of immigration in Iowa.
